I thought I'd talk today about my new love affair with shelving and storage and how difficult it is to function in the worlds smallest office. Never again will I take for granted their sturdy, large shelves full of organization and support. I will never complain about the size of our office when we open. -I SWEAR. I've mentioned this in past posts but since the damage, we've been working in a set of 2 small rooms. This space was our spa room on the back-half of the building prior to the storm. In total it is around 400 sq ft for both rooms.
When the insurance adjusters all agreed, we were told construction would take roughly 3 weeks. As a short term solution we converted this room into a [super hood] version of a studio.
That timeline quickly changed, this space served as a small studio for almost an entire month. It was the best we could do to continue offering our trial services to our brides on a timeline. To be fair, we warned all of our clients about these changes but if I'm being honest it was really hard. We had some of the sweetest and some of the not so sweetest clients enter this space. Most of them we're patient with us, understanding we were going through all of this. There were a few that we're really unpleasant about our tiny accommodations. [which was actually really mean because we were really upfront and trying really hard.] I'm used to offering a really above average experience for our clients so this was difficult for that reason as well. The balance was, do we eliminate this affordable option [only offering the more expensive on location appointments] or do we try to make it work?
Last week we had to make the call to suspend all studio appointments. It wasn't an easy choice. We had some really kind brides who were flexible and moved their appointment post re-open. Honestly though, we didn't have a choice. The orders began coming in and we quickly discovered we didn't have any space.
There are now boxes EVERYWHERE.
Since almost everything was damaged, we've had to reorder it all. From retail to front desk supplies; from computers to hair color, -its all in these boxes. I make this commitment to you internet. I will never in the history of ever; complain about not having enough storage space. We are having a closet built on the bottom floor that will allow us to store any excess items. When it is completed I will close the door and sit on the floor of it and weep. In the honor of transparency, I can't even see my desk right now.
